Northstar Engines and System Technical Discussion Discussion, I'm being ROBBED! (of hp) in Cadillac Engine Technical Discussion; The 4t80e/vin9 northstar combo loses 70-90 horses to the tranny!!
My question is, are there any ways to reduce ...
Yeah they get you now days when they sell cars. The horsepower is usually at the crank when they tell you. They never usually give the the horses at the wheels. Whenever power is changed in direction it decreases simple science rule.
The vast majority of it, is lost to friction. Protech Transmission has a performance rebuild kit that "supposed" to reduce the coeficient of friction in the tranny, "resulting in more hp at the wheels". In all honesty, there isn't a whole lot you can do about it, short of spending alot of money, for a rather small gain. If you want to check out there site, here's the link http://www.protechtransmissions.com/...rmance%20Parts
16% is good for a manual transmission. Most automatics are around 20-22% on the average.
