    Fixing Head Gasket

I just got a 1999 Cadillac Seville STS. The only problem is that it needs a new Head Gasket. I did some research and found this SureGrip Stud Kit. This kit looks like it could solve the head gasket issue for sure but i will have to find out. If anyone has some advice or tips for me that would be great. http://www.northstarperformance.com/sgstuds.php

Either timeserts, or better yet Norm's inserts, are also considered a 'permanant' repair. They can be installed with engine in car if you prefer (many still would rather remove engine from car anyway) whereas studs require engine removal.

Yup, as mentioned, inserts work just as well. Choice is yours, but do your homework. A Northstar HG job is not a weekend project (for most people).

Definitely get a Factory Service Manual or an Alldata subscription for your car while you complete the repair.

    Re: Fixing Head Gasket

I am going to use alldata to help me. I also have a garage that i plan to work in so i can take my time and get it right. But i also at school for automotive so i have done several projects prior to this. I also wanted to know if i should drill and tap the holes if the treads are fine to maybe correct a future problem or just replace the gaskets.

    Re: Fixing Head Gasket

You ALWAYS drill and re-tap the North Star when replacing the head gaskets, ALWAYS

    Re: Fixing Head Gasket

    .............. X 3.

For starters, and to get some idea of what you're up against, look through

    www.carrollcustomcadillac.com - www.huhnsolutions.com - www.northstarperformance.com

.......... and, if you use inserts, you ALWAYS use a set of NEW GM head bolts and washers.

Please - please - read the sticky thread ^^^ on Northstar head gasket work just above this thread. You're on a very steep learning curve, and you might just be in over your head. You WILL need a real GM/cadillac service manual to do the job properly - too many special procedures and torque values to fly blind. (I see you are subscribed to Alldata - that's fine.) Do you speak 3 timing chains, tensioner adjustment, timing, and oil pump drive friction ? Hydraulic cam follower buckets and water pump drive pulley removal - from the left bank intake cam ??
