    Re: Oil pressure problem

I think loss of oil pressure at idle will do more damage than 10-40 ever would. lol sts96

    Re: Oil pressure problem

I usually troubleshoot oil pressure problems by temporarily installing a known good gauge in parallel with an idiot light sensor and finding out what the problem really is. Then you can tell if it is a worn out motor, bad relief valve, or just a sender problem.

    Re: Oil pressure problem

Try one of the heavy duty 15W40 oils such as Delvac or Delo or Rotella. The extra viscosity may help prevent the oil pressure warning light from coming on.

Was the replacement oil pressure switch an OEM part or a generic part from the autoparts store?? If it was a generic part you might try the OEM part as the set point for the oil pressure warning is specific to the Northstar.

    Re: Oil pressure problem

As a last ditch measure there are oil pressure switches for trucks that are adjustable by exchanging shims under a spring.

If it was anything other than a Cadillac Northstar specific oil pressure switch it will cause problems like you describe. Get the OEM switch.
