You need the water pump tool. It's like a huge socket with teeth that goes around the pump impeller and grabs the locking tabs so you can turn it CLOCKWISE about 1/8 turn to release it.

Click on the Search button in the blue bar above the messages, then put the phrase WATER PUMP TOOL in there. There are lots of posts about it, where to buy/borrow it, how to make one (awesome job Ranger!), how to use it, costs, part numbers, everything you ever wanted to know.

That should get you what you need. Good luck and Happy Holidays!

Oops, forgot this important stuff. Don't forget to use the coolant supplement pellets or two tubes of Bar's Leaks Golden Seal powder in the hose (not in the surge tank) before you close everything back up. Also, replace the seal on that water pump cover or at least carefully clean any residue and deposits from it before you reinstall. Mine had a lot of orange-colored crusty stuff on and around the seal. The O-ring behind the pump insert itself should probably be replaced or carefully cleaned. Torque the bolts properly and refill the system with a 50/50 mix of Dexcool (or equivalent, the bright orange stuff) coolant and distilled water. Might also want to get a small amount of a light lubricant in the spring on the water pump belt tensioner and move it back and forth a bit to make sure it moves freely and doesn't seize up.

    Did I miss anything guys?
