Best way to flush cooling system

Hello all, can anybody tell me what is the absolute best way to flush a cooling sytem..The car is a 96 STS and it has a bunch of caked up reddish crap at the top of the radiator and on the radiator cap..Is the old garden hose method the best or do the power flush coolant exchanger machine thingies work better? Any info is greatly appreciated...Thanks much..

Re: Best way to flush cooling system

That "reddish crap" is cooling system supplement aka sealant tab residue. Best to just drain and refill with 50/50 Dex/distilled water. You'll never get all the coolant out, thus if you flush it, you'll never get all the water out and getting it back to a 50/50 mix can be a PITA.
