    oil spraying everywhere from headgasket

no sooner do i sell my car does oil start spraying out of the headgasket. now i sold it to my brother, so obviously im going to fix it or somthing. wierdest thing, it was fine when i dropped it off, the next day....he started it up, and there it started.

anyways, i guess its loosing alot of oil, you hit the gas and it just sprays out of the headgasket according to him....the small shop says its the headgasket, but it sounds like it could be more. warped head? hmmm i had a radiator problem before this, in which the car became very hot before i knew what happened and it went into "limp home" mode, in which i immediatly shut the car off and let it sit, a few days later a new radiator went in.

any clues? or estimated costs on fixing it? he said he ordered a gasket for $160, its the front head so the engine doesn't have to be removed or anything, but im sure its gonna costa hella $$$$

oh ya, its a 95 aurora, which by design is the same as a northstar, i post here because there are alot more experts here.

If it is the head gasket, it will be a bear to fix. $160 for a single gasket, sounds awful steep. The ones for my 93’ STS were $57 each, which included the required new bolts.

I would expect that it will have to have TimeSerts installed as head bolts pulling the threads out of the block seem to be the only way these cars lose head gaskets.

Be sure to either have the factory manuals on hand for the specific torque specs, and methods of dismantling and reassembling this engine. There are numerous special ways of handling these engines.

You really need to diagnose the source of the oil leak before jumping to the conclusion that it is a head gasket. There is only one small oil passage in the head gasket interface and it is at the front of the engine on the inboard side of the head gasket. Any leak from there would seep into the valley of the engine and cause a puddle under the intake. Never saw or heard of oil "spraying" from there. Sure it is not the power steering line or something like that...??? Many power steering line/fitting leaks have been misdiagnosed as "engine oil leaks" .

Had a seal falure on my coolant pump drive pully shaft at the cam cover did a fine job of throwing oil on the front side of the engine, easy to repair the hard part is finding the source of the leak. Leak may not be as bad as it looks be skepital of quick opinions(such as this one). lol sts96

Qil sprayed would indicate pressure so check oil pressure locations on or near the front of the engine, filter housing, cooler lines, a not tight filter can make a real mess. a pinhole leak can make a mist that would be seen only on whatever it lands on. A head gasket leak on front would not be oil may seep coolant that over time could be mistaken for oil. third hand info shakey at best hard enough when you see it yourself.lol sts96

Valve covers are not under pressure. A leak would be just that, a leak. As sts96 said it would have to come from a pressurised line if it is spraying, not the valve covers.
