Ok, Heres what happen. Im driving Saturday morning-life is good and car running great. Suddenly, I notice white smoke in the rearview mirror and I check coolant temp and its 250 Right away Im thinking the dreaded head gasket finally went. Turns out the water pump pullys, belt and tensioner were destroyed. No question about there is 308K miles of wear & tear on these moving parts. Nothing lasts forever. At this point I dont know if the water pump is bad but it does turn.
I did drive the car to the shop. I was 6 miles from the shop. So, I drove it a little then turned it off before it got over 240 and coasted. She kept on starting easily.Then I let it rest and repeated the same procedure until I arrived at the shop.
Now, I didnt fix it yet. Im wondering if I should at this point in its life. She has 308K on her now. I dont want to start throwing money into a dieing horse I have to make a decision Monday morning. The fix would cost about $400 w/o water pump.
