    How do I get spark signal for chassis dyno

    I'm looking into have my car chassis dyno'd, but have come across an issue I haven't found a way to solve.

    The dyno programming requires signal for cyl #1 for reference.

    Since the coils on my '05 Northstar are direct to the plug, there are no spark plug wires to connect the inductive pick-up for cyl #1 (or any other cylinder for that matter)

    Any ideas how do I get around this issue?

    Any info (regarding this) would be helpful.

    This may work: Your engine has COP coils, each held in by a Torx screw. Remove the beauty cover and expose the coil pack, #1 (passenger side, rear bank, first cylinder). Take a 10" length of #16 or #18 insulated wire with the ends stripped about 3/8". Wrap the wire around the coil form twice (the plastic/epoxy squarish thing) and connect the reference signal lead to the wire ends - twisted together. You have just made an inductive pickup coil.

    Thanks. I'll gave to give that a try with a timing light. If it works with the timing light, it should work for the dyno!

    If your timing light uses an inductive ferrite clip - around a plug wire - try laying the tip flat on the coil top epoxy first.
