    2000 sls overheating

ok i got a sls and it will stay one bar above the middle and go up and right back down everything was fine until i drove home from school it started to heat up it first said engine hot ac off well a few mins later it says colant hot the temp was on the redline i pull over (cut the car off)and call the previous owner and tell him whats going on. he says the sensor is bad and the engine isnt really overheating the sensor is broke (does that have truth to it?) well that was maybe 5-10mins tops i turn the car on and drive back home (maybe 1 mile tops) and it didnt get hot. can this sensor be broken or what could be going on? also i tried to check the colant but the damn top wouldnt come off(i let the car cool down too) its very hard to open.
    also car has 106k miles

There isn't enough information to jump the gun and say that it's the head gaskets (you don't want that) but it sounds like you just bought it so I would be very suspect. Why didn't the last owner tell you about a "broken sensor" beforehand? Sounds fishy.

    Broken sensor sounds extremely fishy.

I wouldn't buy that broken sensor excuse. Does it have trouble starting, lots of white smoke, poor idle? That, along with running hot are just a few signs of HG failure.

BTW, my 2000 needed them at 54k. Don't let the 2000 changes fool you, some of them do need attention.

dont know it sucks because he left alot of things out and now im suck with this junk it idles rough but thats because one of the spark plugs are out(well thats what he told me) or could that also be false it said spark plug 8 has to be replaced (misfire or backfire one of those) but when i am in idle is shakes and rumbles

Is the coolant level consistent or are you using coolant? Of coarse you can get it working. It's just a matter of finding and fixing the problem and be willing to pay the price if it is head gaskets. Have the coolant tested for exhaust gases before throwing parts at it.

Is the cap not turning at all? Could be some dried coolant on the threads, give it some taps (not hard) with a hammer, might help. Also put some downward pressure on it while you are turning it. You definetly need to get check the level. I'd be concerned with that rough idle, especially if its on initial start up, thats usually the first sign of a headgasket.

How long have you had this car? Has it been more like 6 days or six months. If you just bought It I would for sure call the guy and ask him why he sold you a car with a bad hg that he most likely knew about.
