Which side of the engine is "left" side?

On a front wheel drive Northstar engine, which side of the engine is the "left side"? I have been told I need a "left side" coil-on-plug module. Is the the module in the "front" of the engine (closest to radiator) or the "rear" of the engine (closest to firewall)? Thanks in advance.

That would be what you are calling the "front" side.

Left and right is determined looking at the engine from the flywheel end.

Update your profile and personal info to reflect your car, year, model, location. User CP up there ^^^ in the lower left blue bar.

Pre-2000 had a 4-coil pack mounted on the rear (right) cam cover. 2000+ have two coil cassettes (modules) mounted in the front (left) and rear (right) cam covers. The 4 individual coils in each cassette are connected to their respective plug by an insulated spring-loaded boot.

If you have a 2000+, and are replacing only the front unit, remove the radiator sight shield (pry up the center plugs and pull the plastic rivets) in order to gain access to all the coil cassette 10mm bolts. Unplug the ignition connector, pull the bolts, and lift the cassette. Clean everything and replace (re-install), making sure the ground spring has good contact/tension.

The left turn signal is on the left side of the car and the right one is on the right side. Pretty simple....

Re: Which side of the engine is "left" side?

He's talking about the engine, which is transverse mounted, thus the left side of the car is the rear of the engine and the right side of the car is the front of the engine, making the front of the cat, the left side of the engine and the rear of the car, the right side of the engine.

The left side is the front of a transverse powertrain.
