    N* cylinder numbers

I have a 2000 ETC with a head gasket starting to leak, which I think has fouled out the plug. I got a code for a misfire on cylinder 1. I searched but could not find out how the cylinders are numbered on the N*. So, where is cyl #1? Thanks in advance.

    Re: N* cylinder numbers

If memory service me right..the cylinders are 1357/2468 but I can remember anymore. Been a while since I actually looked. I believe cylinder 1 in the first cylinder on the right bank (back left side of bay, looking at front of vehicle). Someone who remembers, or has messed witht he wires recently might was to chime in.

I believe Danbuc is correct. 2-4-6-8 on the right (rear) bank. 2 being on the passengers side and 8 on the drivers side. Left (front) bank would be 1-3-5-7.

On my 99 the other giveaway is the big 2-4-6-8 stamped in the camshaft cover next to each cylinder on the front bank. They may have stopped that in 2000 with the CoP cartridge that covers those spots.

    Right Rear corner

    Make sure you have spark!
This is the #1 cause of misfires on 2000 + Northstar's.
As a matter of fact GM redesigned that also for 04. You Can or Can't get individual coils. In 2004 they went to 8 individual coils that come apart, but I don't no if GM sells them individually

    Re: N* cylinder numbers

The Northstar is unique in the GM engine family.

Typically the forward bank is where #1 is with GM. 'Left side, drivers side.' Not Northstar.

On the Northstar bank #1 is the rear forward bank. Passenger side is #1.
