STS "Limited to 90 Miles an Hour" Message

I'm getting this message every time I start my car. From what I've read on this site (and others,) there is no one answer to why this shows up and/or how to deal with it. However, I've noticed (through what others are saying) that a lot of these messages seem to show up inconsistently and perhaps I had a problem or the system thought there was a problem, but there isn't now.

    Questions:

    1. Once a message shows up, is it because of a code and if that code isn't cleared the message will continue to show up, even if the system is no longer detected whatever caused it to begin with?

    2. How do I clear the message or underlying code to see if it comes back? (Or just to temporarily stop the horrendously annoying ding!!)

    Thanks,

    AB

What year car? Pull codes - that warning can be tripped be either suspension or brake problems so you are correct - there's more than one cause for that. Could be any number of sensors (ABS, RSS, ) or other issues. See the "Got Codes?" sticky at the top of the page. The warning message will continue as long as the codes are current. You can clear them but they will return immediately as long as the fault remains uncorrected.

Ummm, I don't see the "sticky" on the page... The car is a 1997.

    Thanks.

Top of the forum are "Sticky" messages. Basically press off and warmer button's on climate control together til the dash light flash. Codes - current and history - will flash by, write 'em down and post them here. Recirculate exits diagnostic mode and you just saved $75. K_C

Okay, with your great help I was able to get the codes.

    PCM
    P0154 History
    P0155 Current
    P0300 Current
    P0603 History
    P1599 History
    P1611 History
    P1652 Current

    TCS
    C1252 Current
    C1253 Current
    C1286 History
    U1255 Current

    PZM
    B1552 History
    B1558 History
    B1972 History
    B2470 History
    B2473 History
    B2477 Current
    B1740 History
    B1771 History

    IRC
    M2120 History

I'm sure that all means something useful...

I have another post going in this forum about an odd sound that is coming from what is pretty clearly a vacuum connection just off the driver's side of the manifold, so that may explain some of them...

    ???

    Thanks!

You got them, did you look them up HERE. That will tell you what they are and this is the place for help. Now you know how to run a diagnostic and get the info and ask more questions, the current Codes are issues you have - the History codes are issues that have corrected - not to worry about them. So look up the current ones. Right off I see you have an O2 sensor issue P0155 Current and an engine misfire P0300 Current. Track down that vacuum leak, it might explain. K_C

So... yes, I looked them up, not that they make a heck of a lot of sense...

Something I left out of my original post was that I am also having a message that says something about the suspension; the messages showed up at the same time. However, the codes don't say anything to me one way or the other about anything...

Re: STS "Limited to 90 Miles an Hour" Message

The root cause of the suspension warning is also causing the speed limited warning. The car is trying to protect you with the speed limiter because it cannot properly control the active suspension. You will need a FSM to translate your current codes into a diagnostic procedure or go to Alldata online.

These are the ones I would concentrate on:
C1252 - Left Front Normal Force Malfunction
C1253 - Right Front Normal Force Malfunction
P1652 - Powertrain Induced Chassis Pitch Output Circuit
