I take it your referring to the MAF/IAT sensors? Silicone will screw up the MAF sensor if you get it on there. You can use silicone spray to lube gaskets and what not in the intake system as long as it doesn't get into the MAF sensor. Other than that, I would worry too much about it. You don't really need a whole lot to get stuff to slide around easily.

Most silicone adhesives, while curing, release acetic acid (that vinegar smell) which is what can mess up various sensors. Some forms of latex construction adhesives cure by polymerization/drying. Lurk through the adhesives section of your local mega-home store and read the tube labels. Not sure what the liquid black adhesive, that GM uses around weatherstrip and warranty leak fixes, is based on.
Construction adhesive - not sure. Safest bet would be epoxy or something from the parts store labeled "o2 sensor safe". High temp hot melt glue would work too. I guess it all depends on what you're doing.
Ok on the Volant CAI the front of it which mates to the radiator support is a huge rectangle. Not very efficient in my eyes. So I have crafted a piece of 1" think foil faces foam insulation board to fit nicely in that rectangle. Then I'm going to cut a 3" hole through it and somewhat mimic the factory snorkel tube.
I just want something to seal the foam-board to the box and the tube to the foam-board. I don't plan on installing it until the adhesive is dry, if that makes a difference.
