Whoa. Best of luck man. I know how you feel though, if the meet wasn't anywhere close to me I'd never be able to do it either.

I was scared to break it in also, it got a little hot and baked some of the paint around the exhaust ports but it survived. I have a flat tappet cam and put globs of assembly lube on all the lobes. I kept it at 2K rpm for 20 minutes and thats it. It looked like it was getting too hot during break in but it wasnt, I just didnt have enough fluid in the block. Make sure you fill the block up with fluid by pouring it down the thermastat housing until its full. I also let my lifters sit in oil for a while before I put them in, saw that on TV.

I'm glad to hear that the Olds 350 installed nice and smooth. Was the cam you used a flat-tappet or a roller? If it was the f-t kind, how did your break-in procedure go? I've been told to do 2-3000 RPM for 20 min while the cam seats itself. That's the only part of the install I'm nervous about.

Wow, thanks for the link, CS. I think what I'm going to end up doing is get a set of Hooker Headers for mine. But thanks all the same. I might keep an eye on that just in case...
Oh, and I finally got my block painted, and almost all the tins. Today I'm painting the oil pan, and then I should be all set to post pics. of my fresh re-paint.
