Key replacement question

Remove this ad
I have recently misplaced my keys to my car. When I go get a key made, will they be able to program them for my car. One guy I spoke with said I would have to have the car their which would be impossible, If I lost my keys.

Also would it be possible to make a key for me and send it or would that have to be done in person. I have all the necessary documentation. I have all three handy insurance card, title, and registration receipt.

If this is possible let me know, thanks a lot Jordan Briggs.

Re: Key replacement question

check with your local dealership on the programming. I BELIEVE the CTS and V can be programmed without an existing key and without a tow to the dealership. I think you can get the new key cut and leave it the run position (dont try to start the car) for 10 minutes. after 10 turn the key off and turn back to the run position for 10 more mins. do this 3 times (total of 30 mins) and the key should then start the car. I cant cut and send you a key Im affraid, we have pretty strict security measures here when it comes to keys

Re: Key replacement question

Thanks for the great info, headed to the dealership now! I will try this, hope it works. I would also like to order one of those flywheels later on this week.

Re: Key replacement question

Hey, just found this thread through a search..

I lost my keys over the weekend while moving to my new house, so I had to go to a GM dealership to buy a new key today. $57 dollars and two hours later (since apparently, they were the only dealer that had one), I get home and try to start the car, and it tells me that engine start is disabled. I just read all of the ways that supposedly program a replacement key, but I tried to crank it already.

What happens now? Is it impossible to have the car learn the key? I don't have the master key, obviously, and I have to get to work tomorrow! Please help me. This whole escapade is really driving me nuts!

Re: Key replacement question

Here are the procedures to program keys when you don't have a master key. You'll have to follow the 30 minute relearn procedure if you don't have access to a Tech II... Good luck.
