    Fleetwood/DeVille Speedometer

I've noticed that the speedometer (Digital Instrument Cluster) on my Fleetwood flashes the digits "85" when that speed is reached. Is that because the computer can't read any speed past 85mph or because there is a governor on it?

It's a limitation of the cluster feed. The analog speedo only goes to 85 also. The car will go faster.

So while the speedo is flashing "85", the car could theoretically accelerate to 100mph?

Haha, probably barely push 100, but it'll make it...there is no governor. The government mandated that all companies produce speedometers with a top, readable speed of 85 mph starting around 1980. Remember, this was back when the national speed limit was 55 mph. Also, all speedometers had to prominently mark 55 mph. This regulation phased out sometime in the late 80s or early 90s.

i think ive gotten my car to about 95 once, but it was pegged on 85 when i did so. and its true, there is a little 55 in between the 40 and 50 mph markers.

My 92 Deville will go a little past 80mph then start cutting out, it has the analog speedo.
My 89 Seville will go 120mph (digital) no problem.

120mph? Is that falling out of an airplane? I couldn't imagine an HT4500 wheezing past 100mph.

You think thats amazing? I've gotten my 86 HT4100 Deville up to about 115mph easy. No it didn't get up there in record time, but it got there. No I didn't lose half the car either.

My 87 deville gets up and goes like a bat out of hell, i've gone to 112 mph (could've gone faster) pretty damn qucik with 3/4 throttle, i let the gears shift around 3200 rpms for crystal clean power. My digital speedo doesn't max out (that i've seen).

To get out an push! j/k Its not that hard you just have to give it time to work itself up there. Like I said it won't break any records but it'll do 115mph+ if given a little time. I'm not really sure what the max is, I'd rather not have all 4 wheels fly off of the old girl.

I think your caddy is just damn slow, i drive a 4100 that has a few modifications that i've done. My car gets up to speed pretty damn fast. Hell i'll just make a video to show.

Let's not post a video of that unless its on a track or something.... Just an idea. Talking about it is one thing, videotaping yourself braking the law is another.... (not to mention I would certainly hope someone else would be doing the filming from the passenger seat.)

Speaking of all of that... caddeville, you get a timeslip for that yet?

Ive gotten past 100 for sure in my 91 deville.
Im not sure exactly HOW fast I was going but on the interstate I was following behind an f250 that was absolutely blowing past people doing 70.
