    Self Sticky - 4.9 Engine History and Changes

    1991
    -Engine introduced. Used in Fleetwood, DeVille, and Seville. 300ci with ratings of 200hp @ 4100rpm, 275lb.-ft @ 3000rpm

    1992
    -Platinum spark plugs now used as standard
    -TPS and throttle body changed to improve throttle feel
    -Exhaust system changed to use 2.5 inch diameter pipe
    -Exhause routing changed
    -Fleetwood's usage of the 4.9 was dropped in favor of the 5.7L 350 for the redesign of the Fleetwood

    1993
    -The new Gen2 CS144 Self cooling alternator used to provide 140 amps

    1994
    -Seville's usage of the 4.9 was dropped to favor use of the 4.6L Northstar only, leaving the DeVille as the only car left in the lineup to use the motor
    -Intake manifold redesigned for quieter operation
    -Single longitudinal exhaust routing used for a gain of 5hp and 5lb.-ft of torque
    -4T60-E received 3rd clutch, premium gear set, and rocker pin chain
    -Computer electronics now integrated into 1 unit called a PCM
    -New HD6 A/C compressor used to accomodate R134a refirdgerant

    1995
    -Exhaust system changed to reduce engine noise
    -Last year of engine production

    You forgot the Eldorado the whole way through . But if you replace "Seville" with "Seville & Eldorado", ?starting in 1992?, to my knowledge you'd be right.

    Really? When I pulled the plugs out of my '92 Eldo at 70,000 (bought it with 54k, so it would be unlikely the plugs had been replaced) they were just standard AC Delco's, not the platinums.
