Rattle Under Car

Remove this ad
Hi,
I have a 1992 STS. When I first start up the car, a rattle starts from under the car around the CAT area. When accelerating, it seems to rattle until I reach about 2-2.5k RPMs, then it goes away. When I stop again, it rattles again. It is worse when the engine is cold and when it is cold outside. Any ideas of what this could be? I'm guessing it might be a loose heat shield or a destroyed CAT.
Thanks,
Aaron

Looks like it's time to replace the cat.

Re: Rattle Under Car

Check the cat heat shield or other heat shields down there. I had a similar problem on my 93 Deville. The heat shield rivets worked their way loose. Simple fix - just get them re-riveted - 30 second job.

Re: Rattle Under Car

Thank you for the replies! I hope it is a heat shield. I will go under and look today. Here is a video clip of the rattle. The rattle seems to start when I put it into drive. The cat looks like it moves up, then the rattle starts. Here is a link:
