    QuestionCadillac code check...

Hello. I am new to this site and am very impressed with everything it has to offer. I was given the old granny 1989 Sedan DeVille over the holidays and am very fond of it. It is about to reach 74,500 miles. From this site I learned how to replace the fuel filter myself. I found out about running a code check via the climate control system. Though no codes were displayed while the check was running, the "Service Engine Soon" light stayed on during the check until I touched the "Auto" button. Is the "Service Engine Soon" light supposed to be on during the check or do I need to take the car in for servicing? Thanks, Jeff

If the service engine soon light is not coming on while your driving it and your not throwing any codes, you should be good to go!

Yes the service engine soon light will remain on during the diagnostic check. Another thing worth mentioning if you are new to this car, please have the coolant (antifreeze) replaced unless its been done within the last year. Also have the coolant supplement installed thats noted on a decal on the radiator support. Very important to the continued life of the engine and must be done every 2 years regardless of mileage .
