There's not a lot to it, but it has less heat soak than aluminum because it's very thick, and dissipates the heat faster, which is why I make them like that.
What does a 4.9 look like in a Fiero engine bay?

If ya don't mind me asking, where did you get the tubbing, what is it used in. I need to make something for my car, I was just going to buy the Yukon Cold air kit and use that. (is easily adaptable to the 4.9 / Fiero install) But I kinda like your setup as you get to choose the length and location of the parts.

I noticed your pipe goes directly over the exhaust pipe, are you not having any melting issues.

I did an intake hate out of PVC pipe and it melted after a couple of weeks of use. So I went back to the Caddy hat with a spacer on it.

TIA and feel free to email me off list if you would like to keep company secrets secret.

If you're melting PVC you'll most likely (99.9% chance) melt the plastic we use as well. The intake doesn't melt in the Caddy because it's spaced far enough away from heat sources to not get hot enough to melt.

If I were faced with the same decision, I would use aluminum or steel and wrap it in some kind of a heat reflective blanket. If nothing else, you can always get your cold air the true racer way - With aluminum dryer hose ducted back to where your actual intake end is. Ghetto as hell, but functional.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Re: Ram Air/Cold air intake for 4.9?

    Finally!

a 4.9 in a car that is more difficult to work on them my DeVille

I personally like the factory intake alot, I know for the Fiero it can't be used though.

Here is my 4.9... she now has 114k miles on it and runs like new. In this picture it was a little while since I detialed the engine so it isn't as clean/shiney as it nomrally is... in fact I just detailed it again yesterday

Ah yes, I also had the lower intake hose removed... made it sound cool, but eh, I didn't like the look and the sound kinda got annoying I guess... so I put it back on.

I swapped the front valve cover because my paint was all messed up (the one above is the one i put on from the junkyard.. not perfect, but so much better.

Then the rear valve cover came off because a piece of the hose fell inside the valve cover, I already had the gasket tho, it was just a PITA.

IIRC this was done around 104k (log book is in the car) I got this car with 79,917 miles and its been getting nothing but Mobil 1 synthetic, oil changed according to the OLM, about every 5k miles.... the damn thing is spotless inside!

origanal valve cover.... pretty darn clean for over 100k

    and the rear bank:

Damn, I miss having a driveway to work on the cars

I can't tell in your pictures, but are you using the orange Bosch 19.4lbs injectors from the Ford 4.6?

That will be a soon upgrade. I had the Orange Ford 19# injectors in the Fiero and I just recently grabed the other 2 out and tossed them in my injectors bin.

Re: Ram Air/Cold air intake for 4.9?

So you are using them or not?

I got mine form a collosion totaled Merc... pretty much direct replacement, the fuel rail had to be bent down just a hair in a couple places to make a nice seal, and some of the o-rings from the old injectors were used (top or bottom, don't remember)

The Ford injectors got rid of the off-idle stumble my, as well as many other 4.9's have (though I don't know if it'll fix all of them) made the idle more smooth, and actually more quiet. It also gave a noticeable boost in power, nothing crazy, but I could tell its there. I heard they should improve fuel mileage as well, and it may have, but the fuel mileage on my car has been a roller coaster for awhile now from a few things, so I really can't say anything there, except once i got the new injectors in, everything started to stabalize, and I am happy with my mileage right now.

Besides flowing 1.4lbs/hr more, I heard the Bosch injectors have a much better spray pattern then the stock Nependenso (sp?) Either way, I got them cheap, it was realitively painless and I am very happy.

They are not installed yet. They are in the box at the moment.

They will be installed this summer.

A lot of people buy the Mandrel bent U tubes used for exhaust fabrication to build thier cold air intake and swear by it. My friend tried it, and painted his with creamic engine paint. Turned out pretty nice.

I never thought about getting 3" exhaust pipe and doing it that way from premade stuff.

I will give that a shot and see how if that will work for me.

    Thanks for the tip.

Ghost C and Evoluzione Engineering are the same thing, really. I took down the website for the company some time ago as health problems and other personal issues have prevented me from doing too much in the field of manufacturing parts for quite some time, but I sometimes do still take orders when I'm feeling up to it.
