Oil light coming on at idle...

...on my '92 Fleetwood. No abnormal noises, only starts to come on when slowing down to a stop and fully on at stop lights. And only when the engine is fully warm. It immediately turns off when I step on the gas and get above idle. 117K, still has 5w30 winter oil but it's soon due for a change and I'll bump it to 10w30 for summer. No codes. Starting point suggestions?

10W-30 will make no difference, it's the same viscosity when hot (however your engine is spec'd for 10W-30, so start using it anyway).

You'll have to find out weather it's a faulty oil pressure switch, or low oil pressure. You can do that by checking the pressure with a gauge, or replacing the switch and seeing if the light stays off.

Re: Oil light coming on at idle...

It appears to have been the oil pressure sensor. Finally got the new sensor today and put it in. Went for an extended drive and it never came on once. Of note, the old sensor's electrical connector was full of oil...cleaned out the connector before hooking up the new sensor.

Moist, I put in 5w30 in the fall since the chart in the FSM indicated I could for very low temps...which there were here in MI (battery froze one particularly cold morning). I knew the Fleetwood wasn't going to be parked in the garage much this winter so hence my choice to go with that for winter.

I have the same problem. I will change the oil pressure sensor. Quick question....where is this piece located in the engine? Thanks.

On the oil filter adapter. Replace it with an AC Delco switch ONLY.

Wait, are you referring to the cat in your profile, or something with a Northstar?
