88 4.5 has no power and wants to die.

changed spark plugs , wires, cap rotor. thinking of changing the pickup coil. and o ya I have to advance the distributor a lot to get it to run.

Could be a clogged catalytic converter.

it has power at one point then at like 1500 rpms the power drops dramatically. if it was clogged wouldn't it not have power throughout the entire rpm range?

    ----------

and also when giving it gas it sometimes backfires out the intake. I was thinking that part was because I advanced it too much but that's the only way it would run lol

Take it to a muffler shop. They will ck a converter for free. How old is the fuel filter? The money you spent would have diagnosed it at a shop!

dude everything I did too it was tune up shit. sounds to me you don't know what your talking about. I don't need someone to diagnose something I'm more than capable of doing myself. I have had cats go out on me its not the damn cat.

    ----------

give me one reason why it would be the cat with actual facts to back it up.

If you're more than capable of diagnosing it yourself, why post asking for help? Or were your first 2 posts just to let us know what you're up to?

You seem to have all the answers. Thanks for stopping by.....

Nothing wrong with asking for clarification, but the attitude was unnecessary. Plenty of members here could offer advice for your issue, but good luck getting help with replies like yours. And please watch the language.
