Can A 4.1 Trans be Used in a Long?...

My 4.1 (Longitudinal) 1984 Eldo block is shot. Can a 1986, 4.1, DeVille (Transverse) engine be swapped in? If so, how big a conversion would it be?
    Thanks,

    FRANKO

No. The mounting on the FWD engine block is entirely different from the RWD setup. You're going to have to get a new or running-used 4.1 liter engine for that setup from a RWD car like yours.

    Thanks for the bad news.
I wonder how Remanufactured Engines.com does their 4.5 for a 4.1? Would it be a 4.1 block built to 4.5 specs(FWD)? Was the 4.5 Tranbsverse only, FWD?

Swap in a 307 Olds, 350 Olds, or any other GM RWD engine with the BOP trans bolt pattern.

You can swap in a FWD engine with appropriate adapter plates. A 4.9L would be sweet in there....

Re: Can A 4.1 Trans be Used in a Long?...

I am the 2'nd Owner of this car(1988)...bought it from Caddy Dealer, took in on trade...22,000 miles, little old lady, etc. I would like to keep it stock...or at least stock-looking.

Where do I find more info on converting a Transverse engine to longitudinal? I have located a smokin' deal on a 1986 Trans 4.1...58,000 miles on it, supposedly.

    'Preciate the help,

I beleive that remanufactured.com uses the standard 4.1 block but runs 4.5 pistons, sleeves, heads. This way it looks and fits like a 4.1 but moves and doesnt fall apart like the better 4.5
