    Question OBD confusion

    My 90 Seville 4.5 with 340k mi has been running poorly, low mpg.
    The OBD kicked up code “E053” I looked up the code and found “Distributor Signal Interrupt”.

    Question:
    What does that mean? Other than the obvious (signal interruption in the distributor)
    What is the most likely part to fail?
    Where and how to perform repair / replacement?
    Any advice on what to do?
    Thanks

    Check the wiring going to the distributor, but a fairly common problem is the connectors to the ICM inside the distributor. They crack and come loose. I know there're a few threads with pictures floating around. Search for 4.5, 4.9 or Deville ICM replacement. Or just google "cadillacforums E053".

    +1. It was impossible not to break that connector when I was replacing ICM. One can still use the connector, but has to carefully clean the distributor off the broken off plastic pieces.

    Re: OBD confusion

    Thanks again Guys for the information. Good news! I installed a new ICM and the DTC “E053” hasn’t returned.
    BUT! A new code took its place, “E046”; Right to Left Bank Fueling Difference. ?????
    Again I ask;
    What does that mean?
    What is the most likely part to fail?
    Where and how to perform repair / replacement?
    Any advice on what to do?
    Thanks
