Re: air pump to fan to crunk v belt

I'm about to tackle the same thing - replacing that v-belt (along with a couple others). My strategy is going to be to actually take the two bolts off the alternator/generator, which is obscuring things right above the A.I.R. pump - as well as unbolt/remove the stabalizing/positioning bars around the alternator.....hoping that will give me enough clearance to get a wrench on that bolt.

I'm a total rookie at this, but that's my strategy, for what it's worth ;-)

Re: air pump to fan to crunk v belt

What does the air pump do? Does it have to do with the pollution stuff? Cause the pully is bent real bad, and I unhooked it and noticed no difference.

Ya I am curious too on that. I think I'm gonna take off the oump belt tomorrow. Mine warped and now has a rattle as well and its not worth the tick tick tick to keep it on it seems. Have a number of people I know who removed the same belt and never an issue

Also, unless my pump is situated differentally you should be able to reach in from the left between the pump, the lines and the engine itself. When I did it I found it annoying because the movement was limited but it does the job fine. Takes very little to losen those nuts

Re: air pump to fan to crunk v belt

Just following up on what the stupid pump does. A buddy and I own the same engine and we are pretty sure it is linked to the air system that aids the level drive system. If thats the right name, whatever it is, it pumps air to keep the car level but seems ok without being on. Best of luck.
