    Valve Cover Powdercoating

    Folks:

I wanted a better-looking front valve cover. I tried painting it a few years back with high-temperature engine paint, but that eventually wore/flaked off. So I decided to have one powdercoated. Picked one up from Caddy King and took it to EastCoast Powdercoat in North East, Md. They blasted it then lightly sanded the center bar to give it sort of a brushed aluminum look. They then clear-coated it. BTW apparently these are magnesium, not aluminum, at least according to this shop. Total price plus return shipping was $175. Can't wait to get it put on!

Did they guarantee the coating to never come off? Looks real nice! But it should for 175 bucks.

No guarantees, no -- but with the clear coat it should be fine for a long time. It beats any type of "traditional" painting for durability for sure. I think my attempt looked pretty good for maybe two years then started to flake.
