    1988 Deville 4.5L oil problems in Russia

    Hello, sorry for my English, I'am from Russia.
    I have a problem with starting 4.5 engine on my 1988 FWD Deville, oil don't fill hydralic lifters and don't came to rocker arms by push-rods, but pressure at sensor is good (when I rotate oil pump mechnically with distributor removed), oil cooler lines are good too. I replaced lifters, but problem is still present. Valves are not open and fuel mixture don't fill cylinders, engine cranked, but not start, fuel stay in intake manifold. Where is my oil?

    Engine turns and you get oil pressure, but the valvetrain doesn't move? Broken timing set, cam, or crank?

    Yes, valves are not open, but camshaft and timing chain are good, because when I replaced lifters (already contained oil), it start at work good until oil gets out from lifters. Oil from engine don't get to lifters at all

    A cam bearing has rotated in the block and the oil feed hole is blocked?

    Thank you, can I check this bearings without removing camshaft from engine?

    I suppose you could just spin the oil pump drive shaft with a drill and see if oil makes it up to the top.

    However, the cam bearing scenario doesn't explain why the flywheel turns yet the valvetrain doesn't...

    We have a language problem! He says no oil gets to the lifters so they dont pump up to move the pushrods to open the valves. When the lifters are full of oil, they move the pushrods. That is, at least, what I understand.

    You are right, my English is bad, but valvetrain is good I already primed oil pump with drill about 5 minutes, but don't get any oil in lifter gallery. I replaced lifters, pushrods, rocker arms, oil pump, oil filter mount but no result. I think next step will be engine replacement

    I have never heard of this condition in any engine. Do you suppose they might be the wrong lifters? I'm stumped.

    Old lifters was replaced because engine works this misfires, smoke etc. I had remove valve covers and see some rockers don't move on running engine and no oil from pushrods. I takes lifters from full operable engine of my another Caddy (Seville '89) and install them into Deville engine, blocks are same. First time engine run great, about 5-10 minutes, until oil don't gets out of lifters. Then turn engine off and it won't start again. I had remove intake and prime oil pump - no oil to lifter valley. In Russia this cars are very rare, and no info in russian internet.

    I think you have a worn out camshaft. The lifters you removed are probably not flat like they should be. Put a straight edge on the cam surface of the original lifters, if you see any gap between the straight edge and the lifter, the camshaft is damaged. If the camshaft is ruined, it requires engine removal to replace it. In my experience a ruined camshaft also means damaged engine bearings throughout the engine, meaning engine replacement.

    Get an oil pressure gauge and test for oil pressure. The pressure at idle is very low on these engines when warm.

    I have roller lifters, not flat.

    Engine not warm up, it don't start at all now. I don't test pressure with gauge, but visually oil flow on both my engines is similar, and on Seville's engine oil gets to lifters then priming, and I already changed oil pump (new is 100% workable)

    Then as somebody else mentioned, you probably have a spun cam bearing. What happens if you take the lifters out and turn the engine over? Take your spark plugs out to release the compression when turning engine over. If you don't have oil flowing from the lifter bores, then your problem lies deeper than the lifters.
