    Valve cover color

    Guys,

What color is the bar on your 4.9 valve cover that has the "V8 PFI" red letters? I could have sworn mine was originally gold -- am considering repainting it and see that some appear to be silver! Does anybody know if hey came both ways?

    Thanks!

    Re: Valve cover color

They came silver from the factory. Sometimes they do appear gold, but those are just stained from years of oil and heat.

The paint peels, as many have found. The TBI 4.5's had similar magnesium valve covers, but those were actually finished rather than painted. You could replicate it by repainting them black, and taking a belt sander to them over the top to obtain the finish without having to use silver paint.

x2 on the silver. The magnesium sucks...causes the paint to peel and bubble...

The raised "fins" were so bad on my cast covers, I ground off the bottom half and painted them smooth...

Fantastic -- thanks for the input. I'm trying powder coating on mine.
