what part of "can't be done" do you have trouble with?
the 4.5 and 4.9 - and for that matter the northstar can not be used to replace the 4100 motor -
at least not without spending megabucks

Of course they can. Many 4100s have been swapped for 4.5s.

    Thank You....
    I seen many 4100's with 4.5 motors.
Even seen a 87 with a 4.9 motor. Of course....A Northstar engine can't be used in this car!!!

There really aren't TOO many differences between the 4.5 and 4.9, so a 4.9 could be made to work on your '87 if you were so inclined.

    Re: Ht4100 :(

From my understanding it take more work and effort for put in a 4.9
typically everyone throw in the 4.5 and i can reason with that engine.
It is a lot more better performance wise compared to the 4.1

It can be done...http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums...y-4-1-4-a.html Eleven pages of pictures and details, read all of it and make your decision. Yes, a 4.5 will be easier, yes a 4.9 will have more power.[COLOR="Silver"]

I think you are refering a 82/84 inline HT4100 engine swap out with traverse 4.5 or 4.9 and you are right. Cant be done.
The 87 4.1 is a trasverse engine and can be swapped with its bigger brothers.

BTW Id love to be able to swap the HT4100 in my 83 Eldo with a 4.9 but I think the amount of money it would take would be better spent on converting the car to RWD and sticking a 454 under the hood. Ya that!
