car wont start (84 4100)

this happened to me a few weeks ago, and is now happening again, my 84 deville wont start, it is turning over, and i disconnected a section of the fuel line, and it seems to be getting gas, but it will turn over and not catch...

ive heard that the starter does this sometimes, but havent checked, because i thought that if the starter was acting up, the car wouldnt turn over...
is this true???

ive figured that it is possible that it could be a short in the power source to the fuel pump, the starter or the alternator...

my other question is, if the alternator is acting up, will this cause the car to not start up?? (fuel pump being powered by alternator???)


thanks alot... i really need to know what is going on before it gets cold and i end up getting stranded somewhere......

by the way, i ran the diagnostics, and came up with:
30- ISC Circut Problem
and
34- MAP Signal Too High


what do these codes mean and what are the ISC and MAP?????

if you crank it while you hold the pedal down slightly will it start, and then die when you take your foot off the gas? if it does it is probably the ISC (Idle Speed Control) this would be a relatively easy fix.

i think so... i tried starting fluid and it started right up... *(and then shut off)

do you know of anything else that may be the problem??

and thanks for clearing up what ISC means.... ill have to resarch on what may be wrong and how to fix it...

it was the fuel pump... fixed now... :coolgleam

got it all fixed, but still under diagnostics, 34 and 30 come up...

how do i fix the ISC problem?????

I would just replace the ISC, that should clear up the codes.
Just get a service manual, that should tell you how.
