    ok just need some info

Ok thinking about rebuilding my engine, Was wondering if there is a better cam to put in my 4.5 and had an idea about boring the pistons. or if there is another engine I could put in to marry up to my existing tranny.( larger engine) but would like to get another 4.5 or 4.9 block and do the mods on it the drop it into my baby. Just looking for suggestions and ideas

Re: ok just need some info

There is no aftermarket parts for that motor especially a cam. Any internal engine work would be totally custom and you'rr on your own with that. One guy I know of did a bunch of mod work to a 4.9 for a fiero but from what I hear he is not willing to share any of his findings. www.fieroaddiction.com No other motor will drop in besides the one that it came with and unfortunately the '90 is one of a kind because it is MPFI AND non electronic trans. If you want a 4.9 you will have to swap both motor AND trans AND wiring harness/ecm/PROM. It's really not worth it plus since they only made the MPFI 4.5 for one year, it will be harder to find a replacement.

You can put a 4.9 long block under your existing intake. The 4.9 block is effectively a bored and stroked block. And keeping your current intake means keeping all of your engine management intact.

if that's all i have to do is change the block I'd like to do that keep the intake and the rest of the stuff if that's all wonder where in the hell that guy with the red fiero got all his part to soup up his engine and that turbo 4.9 is awesome. But i have a fear of small cars so will stick to my nice heavy caddy, just want the engines the have in those little rockets

Yeah you go ahead and throw a 4.9L under the engine management system of a 4.5 and get back on here and tell us how well it runs. IF it runs.

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

ok ok... all laughter aside, if you change the PROM (the computer chip) it MIGHT work... at least that way the fuel tables will be correct but you will have issues concerning the trans since the 4.9 uses an electronic trans. Is all the hassle really worth 20 extra horsepower?

Custom headers will cost more than the car is worth. (but would be epic!) The 2 biggest improvements you can make for performance are 1. Advance the timing to no more than 14d BTDC, and 2. Performance muffler of your choice. I have this same vehicle and those 2 things made the biggest difference.

Be more specific..... Which headers, front or rear? (front I assume...) What side of the rad, left, right, top, bottom? Describe the fitting.

Nothing would work other than a custom job. Forget about it unless you can weld and have alot of time and patience.

Delta has a cam grind for the 4.9, but that is the only one in the 4.x family that I know of...
