Re: engine coolant supplement

There it is again "the lower radiator hose" What the hell is that mean? Why not just the radiator? How would you add additive to the lower rad hose? Can someone please clear this up for me. I've heard that before but I cant understand HOW to add the supplement to the LOWER rad hose.
Thanks
Big Tone.

It would be while you are flushing the system (so it would be empty of coolant). You take off the lower hose to drain the system. When you are putting the hose back on you put the 6 pellets in the hose as you attach it. The advantage is there is room there for 6 pellets. When you are putting it in the radiator fill you may have problems getting all 6 to slide down and not get stuck in the coils. If you break them up, you should be fine though. Also use a turkey baister to remove some coolant so you have room for the pellets.

Re: engine coolant supplement

Or just buy the "Golden Seal" version which comes in powdered form...

The comment to add the stuff to the lower radiator hose is quite valid for Cadillac's Northstar engines. Not so much for the 4.1 4.5 and 4.9. That is because Northstar doesn't have a radiator cap in the radiator - only in the overflow tank. If you wan't to see exactly why, search the Northstar forum for more info.

But if you have the hoses off, adding it to the lower hose won't hurt anything. I prefer the powdered stuff. Or, you could take some antifreeze, dissolve the tablets in it, then pour the mud into the radiator!
