    I doubt that the block would accept roller lifters, and the cam profile is totally different for a roller lifter. It would be great if it was possible the change the whole valve train on the earlier engines.

    Yes a cam swap plus drilling the block to hold the lifter retainer, not a simple job and really no gain. A cam swap requires an engine removal on this car!

    The 4.9l engine is already has roller lifters/followers.

    Roller lifters are the key to long life for an engine, as opposed to flat tappet. If one roller lifter is noisy, it's likely varnished a bit. Haven't ever seen a roller lifter go bad except leak down. Replacing one lifter wouldn't be too bad a job if it's necessary.

    The 4.1 and 4.5 would be much better engines with rollers, and without the cam problems they are noted to have.
