    How long would you say it takes? You are saying I wont need a spatula, trying to get the bearings out or anything like that? And I wont need new rods or anything like that just pop the old bearings out, put the new in, and batabing bataboom, no more bearing thump?

    Well, the 4.9 isn't any different than any other engine. You really need to check the clearances. While plastigauge isn't incredibly accurate, it's good enough when the engine is still in the car.

    When you unbolt the caps, the bottom shells will come out with the caps, since they have a sort of "spring loaded" fit into the caps. The uppers will need to be very carefully rotated out, rotating from the opposite side of the tang. It's not difficult, just take your time. Don't touch those crankshaft journals trying to get the upper shells out.
