    4.1,4.5,4.9..Which You Prefer?

I currently have a HT4100 engine in my 87 Sedan Deville w/ 81,XXX miles, now i recently sold my 88 Deville which i truly miss because of the powerful engine. Now, 4.9 is a the monster of all cadillacs, i owned a 91 and out of those two the 4.1 doesn't meet up to be powerful as the 4.5 and the 4.9 motor.

So question is, what engine would you prefer and why?

    well....
    should i replace my HT4100 for a 89-93 Deville.
I am so wrapped with those old fwd models caddys, not to big on the new cadillacs on the market.

    1988 - 1989 4.5L = 140hp, 1990 4.5L = 180hp, and 1991-1995 4.9L = 200hp. I'd say sell that '87 before the intake gaskets let go and get yourself a 1991 or newer. Thats just my opinion, its all up to you.

Got this one guy that wants to buy it, so i reallly don't wanna take chance with it. So..... I will be shopping around for a 90-93 Deville, which i would prefer a 92-93 the leather in those two years were more comfortable then the 89-91.

The 87 is true beauty, and still has the showroom look.
But the HT4100 isn't my cup of tea right now, i'm fiendin for the 4.5/4.9 performance. haha

Bigger is better, plus it pretty well ironed out all the problems of the earlier models.

What you guyz think of the Eldorados?
I used to have a 89 w/ the 4.5 motor and man i would just melt into the seats on the highway.
Now i think that was the best caddy i ever driven, and then i can't stay away from a Cadillac.

4.9 hands down. Why? HP/torque and reliability.

    Re: 4.1,4.5,4.9..Which You Prefer?

I remember a few years ago I had my 1987 Seville,it had a new engine with only 14K miles on it (162,000 on the odometer). My cousin bought a 1990 Sedan Deville, we used to open them up on the road sometimes and I would always seem to pull from him! We found out that one or more of his rocker arms were defective, so a mechanic friend went out to the salvage yard and pulled the assembly from another cadillac.

The difference in the performance was definate and immediate. My cousin decided to test it on our way home from the shop. We were at a red light and I was the head of my lane, but he was 3rd in his lane. I took off from the light pretty strong thinking he would never catch me, I was wrong! After he overtook the two cars in his lane he reeled me in, I just couldn't keep the lead! He pulled up beside me looked over and smiled, and took off!

I remember thinking that Deville has a lot of power! Now I can feel that little extra "umph" with my 91 4.9!

the OP has a 4.1 so he would keep it TBI since it has not yet been converted to MPFI

So that '87 TBI's ECM is gonna know how to run a 4.9? Why bother anyway? I say sell the thing while it still runs and looks good.

    Re: 4.1,4.5,4.9..Which You Prefer?

I've owned a lot of Caddys. My current '85 (4.1 of course) and my wife's '93 Fleetwwod (5.7 Chevy ) are not the nicest Caddys I've ever owned.
My first was a '41 62 series (346 flat-head) It was 10 years old when I bought it in 1950. It was a great car. Then there was the '52 Coupe DeVille (don't remember the engine). Then there was a '55 Coupe De Ville, a very nice car with the 331 engine, and next a '57, which was OK but not as nice, a'63 62 Coupe which was a nice car.
Then a '65 Coupe Deville (429 which ran well) Then I bought a '76 Coupe Deville and fixed it up for my oldest kid, who managed to wreck one fender at a time, but at least didn't get hurt in it. I finally scrapped that one, and kept the engine for my El Camino. Around 2003 I bought a '85 RWD Fleetwood, as another car to have around, which lasted 7 weeks before my wife had a serious accident with it
The '85/4.1 has been a real trip. Just name something on that car, and I've replaced it. It drives great though, and that's the only reason I didn't scrap it.
