1993 Sedan Deville Transmission Swap

Remove this ad
Hello,

I recently purchased a 1993 Sedan Deville and I need to swap out the transmission. I plan on pulling out a transmission from a junkyard/u-pull it type place. I was hoping somebody could tell me what transmissions are compatible w/ a 1993 Sedan Deville. I'm pretty sure the 91-93 devilles will all work, but I was hoping I might have some more options as well. Thanks for your help.

Re: 1993 Sedan Deville Transmission Swap

Many auto salvage yards have a Hollander's manual, which has the info on what fits what. Maybe a couple phone calls to yards will help get some info for you.

Re: 1993 Sedan Deville Transmission Swap

You're looking for a 4t60E from any 91 to 95 4.9 cadillac. Northstar cars use a slightly different trans (4t80E) if you get a trans out of an STS or an Eldo ETC, the final drive ratio will be higher(3.33) vs 2.98 for base model sedans. You will have more acceleration off the line but higher rpm and less mpg at highway speeds with an STS or ETC trans. They're pretty rare anyways so its not likely that you will find one... Just make sure you get a non-northstar trans from any 91 - 95 caddy and it will work.
