Have you ever entertained the idea of turning it around and having the air intake draw in current from near the base of the windshield? The '69 Z/28 had an intake like what I'm talking about, it not only took advantage of the fact that the base of the windshield is the area of highest air pressure on a car, but it also created a hood shape that was rather sexy.
