These cads use the not-so-popular 7-pin module with cam sensor. Most of the aftermarket stuff seems to be for 4-pin module applications. The SBC ignition aftermarket seems to be dominated by the older vacuum advance HEI stuff. I really dont think you'll find a direct drop in replacement for you car. |

I'm happy it keeps running. The term HT, as in HT4100 (High Tech) is a real joke in my opinion. What the hell is so high tech about it? For something called high tech, they sure have more than their share of problems. Iron heads on an aluminum block instead of the the other way around? What the hell were those people thinking? The oil drain-back from the top end is really a bad design.
I enjoy driving my old '85 Fleetwood FWD, and wish I had a brand new one, but it will never be a neck-snapper for performance. The rack/pinion steering is great compared to the old gearbox etc. And it gets great gas mileage.
The transmission is what worries me sometimes. Hopefully it will hang in there for a few years. I've had the engine out twice, for cam problems, and the distributor was too tall to sit in the block without binding the bottom of the gear on the washer in the block, and taking the cam out for the second time and galling the bottom of the gear. High Tech I tell ya! Had to make some shims on the CNC to raise the distributor for a bit of end-play in the shaft. I must be a real glutton for punishment to keep this thing going. |

I wondered how one of these engines would work in a boat. Then again, I don't think I need that kind of aggravation in my old boat. I'll leave the old 327 Chevy in there for now. |

The "air cooling" was a joke!!!
The caddy engine in the picture is setup for a "modified" small block chevy electric pump. |

We have an extra 4.9L lying around that my dad wants to turn into a stationary motor (hooked up to a 20kw generator), so that would be a pretty interesting way to do it. |

If you've nothing to contribute to the thread - other than unrelenting negativity - why continue to post? To prove your keyboard works?
On a more positive note...
Ram air, bitches! It's just a mockup... For now. Holes will be cut. Cruise control will be sacrificed. I've already requested an "INSERT HONDAS" decal from a decal shop for the plenum.

I havent seen such a thing in this entire forum. I dont think you'll find it in a fiero forum either. Every engine ever made is and should be open to criticism. After all, they're all made by human beings. Without criticism there would be no improvement. If your so sensitive about your engine, you're not going to like the reaction you get with a 4" PVC pipe sticking out of your hood. Once you cut your hood, there's no going back!
I'm going to take a wild guess that no one is contributing to your posts because you have something nasty to say about everyones custom work and a crappy attitude towards everyone's ideas, especially when it comes to mods. Btw, I think red_ghost is doing a fine job on his caddy no matter what he 'stuffs' in the trunk. It's not a race car. Maybe you could set your attitude and prejudice aside and learn something from him?
There's your contribution. Constructive criticism. My keyboard works too! |

When I said red_ghost's engine mods weren't going to make any improvement, other than some people's opinion of making it prettier, I was telling the truth. When I said he made his car slower with some of his mods (batteries, hydraulics, hydraulic pumps, etc) I was telling the truth. I apologize that people get offended when I speak the truth.
I also apologize that I used a hulking piece of PVC for an intake plenum. I should've used... What, metal? Which would weigh more and retain more heat, and would've been more expensive to make. Or maybe there's some other type of plastic that costs more than $3 that somehow is more functional because it's not PVC. I'll apologize ahead of time for my ram air system, which will make more power alone than any 5 modifications anyone else on here (besides illumina) has made put together. I'm also sorry that I'm going to put a hood scoop on a 91 Cadillac DeVille, I'm just a lowly ricer who's shaved 486lbs of weight off the car and gotten sponsorships for motorsports and makes things out of PVC, I don't know any better. Forgive me. Seriously, I'm sincerely apologetic over here. | | Cadillac Discussion Tools | | |
