The neutral switch mounts on the transmission. If it is out of adjustment or loose, this code will set. Also if internally shorted, it will set a code as well. Hard to describe adjustment procedure, You need the factory service manual if you decide to do this yourself. Can you get the dealer service advisor to burn a copy of the diagnosis for you? from the manual.

    1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
    2. Disconnect shift cable from transaxle.
    3. Disconnect electrical connector from switch.
    4. Remove two switch mounting bolts and then the switch.
    5. Align flats on switch with flats on transaxle shaft and push switch over shaft and fully seat on transaxle.
    6. Install and torque switch mounting bolts to 20 ft. lbs. If switch was rotated and pin is broken, switch will be automatically reset to neutral position as follows:

    1. Place transaxle shaft in neutral position.
    2. Install switch on transaxle as outlined previously and loosely install mounting bolts.
    3. Insert a 3/32 inch gauge pin into service adjustment hole of switch.
    4. Rotate switch until pin drops in detent.
    5. Torque mounting bolts to 20 ft. lbs.

NO, you need to perform the steps as written to diagnose whether or not you need a switch. As I said, it can be as simple as a loose or misadjusted switch. Or the connector on the switch not fully seated. Codes NEVER tell you what part to replace, they tell you what circuit to diagnose and if the diagnosis confirms a faulty component, then you replace it without guessing.

    Hi,

had the same problem with my former ´91 buick park avenue.
The prnd switches bolts were just loose on top of the trans...
Adjusted it like Lithorian wrote and the problem was gone.

    good luck
