    deville 4.5 and gm taps

    Dear all

I just bought a sedan deville 1989 with 35.000 original miles in a very good condition. So far the car runs great. However, I learned in this forum that one of the problems with the HT engine is cooling and one should regularly change the water in the cooling system and use GM supplement taps (hope to get them here in Switzerland) because of the aluminum parts in the engine (head gasket etc). Does this general information about HT engines hold true for my car too? It is a 4.5 liter, not the pfi but a tfi and has 155 horsepower as far as I know. The production number of the car is 1G 6CD 515 9K4 229 445.

Thanks a lot for your help and best regards

    Hardo

Yes it's true. Since your car is an 89, it would have a 4.5 TBI and 155 hp.

Your engine is not as troublesome as the 4.1 litre engine. They made improvements on the 4.5 and then the 4.9 litre.Yes,you should use GM supplement "tabs",not taps,in the cooling system. You can also use BARS LEAKS GOLD POWDER--comes in a plastic tube.I use 2 tubes of it in my 4.9 litre.Your 4.5 litre can use the same.
If you use BARS LEAKS----use the gold powder only.

    Hardo43,

As Popmpste said, your engine is not HT4100 (high trouble) but simply 4.5 liter, which is nearly as good as 4.9 liter one. Let us know if you cannot get the supplement (the powder or tabs) in Switzerland. I can ship some to you to keep your engine in good shape.

Thanks a lot for this information.

I could get this bar's product; however, it is not a powder, it seems to be a liquid.

I have never used a liquid... If it contains aluminum powder, definitely avoid it! Do you see powder (ground ginger roots and walnut shells) inside of that bottle?

No it`s not what you need.As Huf said,it contains aluminum.Either use the BARS LEAKS TABLETS on the link a member posted for you or BARS LEAKS GOLD POWDER.This product is the absolute best for your 4.5 litre engine. The ingredients are the same as the GM SUPPLEMENT TABS.
