93 Started, now can't keep belt on

ok the car is running awesome with the belt off. But as soon as I put that thing on the belt tensioner moves up and down and makes a very loud knocking noise. Now I checked every pulley. The water pump pulley bolts are loose. So I tightened them down. Put the belt back on and they came loose. Did it again, same thing happened. Now further looking at the pulley shows that the holes are alot bigger than they should be. it looks like the pulley tried to move but the belt wouldn't let it and made the holes bigger. the water pump spins freely, do I need to replace the water pump because of the mounting holes for the pulley as well as the pulley? And would this cause the loud noise and the belt tensioner to go crazy?

The pulley is probably not rotating in a perfect circle because of the bolt holes. With the pulley off, make sure the flange that it bolts to on the w/pump is not loose. They had a habit of coming off the water pump shaft!! Yes, replace the pulley

You think with that pulley doing that it is making the tensioner make all kinds of noises and bouncing up and down?

You have to be my eyes! is the pulley wobbling? With the belt off, engine running can you place a wooden ruler close to the w/pump pulley to check run out?

The previous owner also had some different bolts in there. Wrong thread and cross-threaded in there with loc-tite. Might have to replace the water pump if the stock bolts don't thread right. So hopefully this is the problem.

Pay attention to the flange on the water pump. They do let loose! Should be room to re tap the threads? star washers under the correct bolts should be enough.

This different question should probably be on the electrical technical forum. These connectors I think go to road sensing front struts. I'm thinking the struts were changed out for non active struts before you got it. My 91 Allante has a similar connector left disconnected after the new struts were replaced.
