93 deville "CHUNKing" while reved in park or nuetral.

My 93 developed something strange today. while reving the motor in park it tries to jump into gear making a loud CACHUNK sound. the car rolls just a tiny bit then stops. MY car is on a steep driveway. Whats going on? It does it in neutral too. Do I need to re-adjust the shifting linkage? Anybody eles have similar problems. This doesnt sound good.

I found my demise on the internet.
BTW....it is hard to tell from your description exactly what is going on there...but...there is another situation with the F7 trans or the 4T60E that you could be encountering. If the intermediate sprag clutch is getting worn it can sometimes engage on a neutral rev. You 'll feel this as a sudden lurch when the engine is revved as the overrunning style clutch grags (when it shouldn't...) suddenly and momentarily causing the trans internals to suddenly rotate. Usually it will happen with a "clunk" that sounds pretty grueome. If this is what you are experiencing it is NOT a good thing. In my crystal ball I see trans problems in your future. To keep them at bay as long as possible DON'T rev the engine up in park/neutral to keep experiencing this phenomenon....it will just shatter the sprag clutch one day and then the trans will have to come out

Hi Lenny, mine does that too but it doesn't clunk. I assumed it had something to do with my high mileage. I guess I had better baby it.
