    4.1 dampener pulley bolt

Help! I need a dampener pulley retainer bolt for my 1985 4.1 Deville! I have contacted a couple of GM dealers to be told that has been obsoleted. I have looked all over the internet without luck and no used auto yards is going to mess with this for less than $50. Where else can I look? It is a 16mmX1.25 pitch and 30mm long.

That engine if original had no retaining bolt! There was a factory installed piece of cork ( like one in a wine bottle) inserted in that hole. A bolt installed is a good idea, but was not there originally!!

no bolt? Really? There isn't anything that seems to hold it in there other than centrifical force and the belt. Doesn't sound right...

Its pressed on from the factory. It should not simply slip on like some other engines. If it comes off easily then the bolt is necc.

I did have to get it off with a puller, but I am surprised it is just a "pressed fitting". I'm going to go ahead and put the bolt I have on to make sure. Got enough problems with this thing without the dampener falling off!

I just looked at my 84 Eldo with 80,000 miles. It has the cork in the crank pulley! The threads in the crankshaft are there to enable a puller to remove then reinstall the dampner.

I have a 1985 Fleetwood Brougham with HT4100 and would also like a dampener bolt....was the 16MM x 30MM with 1.25 pitch end up being the right one? I cannot find combination on fastenal's website....do you have part numbers?

    thanks
    david
