bought a 84 brougham and it was running then it just died on me body and interior real good shape but there are a few things wrong wondering if anyone could help not all warning lights work and wondering if there was a certain circuit board there is for me to check? would appreciate any help trying to get all the light to work because i cant figure out what is wrong with the car timing is good i have spark and fuel replaced ecm and ignition module only code that comes up is 52 which says reset ecm
went down to check the timing again for some reason didn't think it was right and found that the distributor wasn't turning but was earlier now just need to take out the distributor and hope that the gear that is striped is the distributor gear not the cam gear worked on it earlier just to find out that i can't get to the nut bent one of my 14mm wrenches to take out the nut but to small if anyone knows off hand what size the nut is it would be appreciated for some help oh well at least i found the where the problem is
thanks for the advice i like this forum
It's a 15mm on my early 85 FWD Deville (i.e. I have an 84 motor in my car). I'd assume it's the same on yours. The distributor gears do fail, but it's often because the cam gear has worn teeth, so you may need to replace the camshaft, too. Once coolant leaks into the oil undetected, it destroys the cam and cam gear on these cars. I had to replace my camshaft, and my car only had 37,000 miles! I had 6 flat lobes.
pulled out the distributor and it was a 15mm after tearing up a 9/16, 5/8, and a 14mm but anyway pulled it out and found that the distributor gear is just fine and it seems that the cam gear isn't turning either going to check for compression one more time when i get a chance but thanks for all the help again and going to check on the cam gear being worn out
thanks for all the info come to find out that the cam gear for the timing gear was stripped out and the chain was in back of the gear and stripped out to about nothing got lucky and found a chain and gear that was discontinued for 2.70 installed and just need to clean parts and reassemble thanks everyone
