'91 4.9 swap into a rear drive application?

I'm thinking my spare 4.9 would be a great swap into my mint '82 Chevy S10 2wd sb. I'd planned to use a chevy small block, but I love this Cadillac engine, and it may be a better package all around, what with the lighter weight, low profile, etc. Obviously a fwd to rwd swap, probably use a 4L60E, need to fabricate mounts, etc. Anyone know if the rwd trans will bolt up? Anyone done this swap, or one like it??

Re: '91 4.9 swap into a rear drive application?

Nope, the 4L60E transmission will not bolt to the 4.9L. You'll probably have to make an adapter to get it to mate up. You might want to give http://www.advanceadapters.com/ a call. They might have what it takes to get this to work. Yes, I agree the lighter 4.9L would be a better all around package in your S10. Good luck.

Re: '91 4.9 swap into a rear drive application?

There WAS a guy fabricating RWD swaps to replace the HT-4100 with a 4.9. IIRC they used the HT-4100 RWD block with all the wet sleeves and other parts from the 4.9 to get the bellhousing needed. I have not heard about these in the last 5 years. It was on the WWW a while back. Great idea especially if an updated PROM came with the other parts.
