    exhaust venting in cabin

on my 88 deville, the exhaust seems to be venting from some of the vents into the cabin. i had to cover the windshield vents (when i pulled the towel off, there was black dust on it) and the floor vents (there are black soot stains on the floor next to these vents) with a towel to keep it out. it does not seem to vent from any of the other vents.

any ideas on where i could find the leak? it seems that the fsm does not point out how to trouble shoot this (unless i missed it)

Woah! If it's exhaust gas, forget the towels! Do not drive it, or if you absolutely MUST, all windows down, no exceptions. Anyway, that is a very odd problem. Check and see if it is exhaust gas first by checking the integrity of your exhaust system. any leaks should be repaired anyway, even if they do not appear to be the cause of the problem.

more likely severe cooling system problem, heater core?? or maybe exhaust leak getting pushed thru by the blower motor, or blower motor itself?? hope u figure it out before u pass out from carbon monoxide poisoning.

lol, it actually isn't that bad.....i do drive with the windows down and the sunroof open anyway.

i do smell coolant occasionally so i guess i would start at the heater core (with a replacement?)

is it possible that there is exhaust making it to the vents at the hood cowl under the windshield?

i will take pics today since it is really nice here in nj for a change to give you guys an idea of the locations and what it actually looks like.
