    86 Fleetwood engine swap

    Hi,

I am new to this forum and very new to cadillacs. I was lucky enough to receive a 1986 Fleetwood with a perfect interior and exterior. The trouble is the engine sounds like it will die any day. The Fleetwood is not ready to go to car heaven. I have a 305 engine out of a 88 GM PU and was wonder if the engine mounts are compatible with the Fleetwood. I was also wondering if my tranny should be replaced?

Thank you experts for the help.

    Re: 86 Fleetwood engine swap

Is this a front wheel drive or rear? Fleetwood made bodies for both in '86.

What exactly is the engine doing that makes you think it's dying?

I agree. If this is a RWD Fleetwood, you likely have an Olds 307 in the vehicle--and this would be the engine pulled from an 88. See if the oil fill tube is left of the thermostat. If so, you have an Olds engine, not a Chevy 305. This forum is for HT4100, 4.5, and 4.9 Cadillac V8s so you might want to try the other "5.0 and 5.7L" forum.

Thank you guys for the fast replies.
My Fleetwood is a RWD and the oil tube is left of the thermostat. I will check the 5.0 and5.7L forum.
    Thanks once again!
