    New Classified Section Suggestion

Most auto forums I'm on that have a classified system like this have a few ground rules. My suggestion is to implement them:

    1. Price MUST be listed in the title of the ad.
    2. Location must either be in your profile or posted in the ad (shipping zip is always nice)
    3. No "PM me a price" or auctions - this isn't eBay.

I notice a few ads with no price or location listed, and honestly it's pretty hard to sell something if you don't know how much it is, or where to go to get it, right?

    Just a thought.

    Re: New Classified Section Suggestion

Any sale that includes "best offer" has the potential for a bidding war.
I think this is a common way of doing a vehicle sale.

The last vehicle I sold on craigslist ended up as a bidding war and I allowed it togo on 2 weeks.
I was pissing one guy off really bad & was reported & ad deleted.
I was re-generating the ad everyday to bump it.

I still sold the car under value originally being listed below book value.
No one ever met my listed price and believe I should be able to hold out for that if nessesary.

Used cars are just negotiable as a rule.

What I find a problem is some have not removed sold items & perhaps auto-generated e-mail would have some effect to alert a seller to update a sold item.

Well, this isn't eBay. OBO and auction style are different.

And yeah, Sal I think this section should have special rules pertaining to deleting posts, or being able to edit your post for longer than 24 hours, etc. etc. Either that, or a new mod or two for it once it takes off.

This poster wants to buy a part. He has only 3 posts on the site so therefore has no PM capacity. He's posted an email addy in the ad.

Yeah, no new threads until X amount of posts (20-25?) would be good.

^that would turn off a lot of people who join to specifically ask advice on something.

    Re: New Classified Section Suggestion

I'm agreeing with Jimmy here ...

however sal's point (as I took it) was more about the email address than about the newb posting a new thread

i have mentioned sal's new rule about emails (and linked to the post) a few times but so many people post their email addresses it's ridiculous

the other day i looked thru the 'rules'/TOS and didn't find mention to the new email rule - in fact i found mention to a bunch of stuff that sounded outdated and no longer applicable to the site

I mean in the classified section only, not the whole forum.

    Re: New Classified Section Suggestion

There are forums that do this too. That way you don't just end up posting crap to sell and only joining for that. Also a big car audio forum I'm on has a policy where you have to put a sheet of paper with your hand-written screen name and the date in all of your photos to prove that the items are yours. Especially with car parts, sometimes the value can be great, and it'd be a shame to have to see "I just got scammed out of $X" threads start popping up.
