Great Lakes Discussion, Big Midwest Meet! Des Moines, Iowa -- May 18-19 2007 -- Porky's Diner -- Track Time! in Cadillac Clubs, Local Chapters and Regional Forums; I'll probably come friday night, might race, might not. depends how many other Broughams and Coupe Devilles show up, we ...
Yup, Tennessee, hicksville USA lol. I'm originally from Michigan, even after 5 years here I still have culture shock.
A Cadillac motorcade.. wow that would rock.
The only thing is I'm almost thinking of renting a car because I feel guilty taking one of mine on the highway that far. Not because of the distance, because all those damn trucks throw stones at me. But it just wouldn't be the same showing up at a Cadillac meet with an Impala now would it?
When us MN members (90Brougham350, I, derrtydeville, addisonII, and others) come down, I think we should do a motorcade too. And we should all have Led Zeppelin's "Rock and Roll" blarin' when we come pullin in to the dealer!
My Plan was to have all the forum members meet at my house and then motorcade our asses across town to the meet. How bad ass would that be?
Having done 3 of these for GTO's I'd say do one of these 2 senerio's. Having people meet at your house would be a mess if a ton of people show up; plus you will have a certain amount of people that don't know you and as such won't want to meet at anyones house.
1) Have everyone meet for breakfast/lunch at an restaurant that has good parking and is easy to find. Everyone can then drive over to Betts together.
2) (this is the one I do). After the meet have everyone drive to a park to take pictures together and then drive to have dinner together. You have to be able to keep the group together on the drive which is tough even in Ames so DM will be even tougher. Make it easy to find and maps would help.
Also people need to be entertained at the Meet. Just talking cars and checking everyones cars out works pretty well for 2-3 hours, but at some point people get bored and leave. We have sponsors that donate prizes and we give those away. We also give out trophies. We also do burn outs. This all seems to be an absolute minimum and honestly I'm trying to thing of more things to do.
