This will be the first ever NATIONAL meet for cadillacforums.com. We have changed this from a Midwest meet to a full national meet mainly because we have members coming from all over the place, even Tennessee and Oregon! This WILL be the biggest and most exciting meet ever seen on these forums! The meet is going to be May 18th 2007 to May 20th, 2007. Everything is set in stone. This is THE PLAN for the weekend.

Friday, May 18th-
Meet at Econolodge hotel parking lot at 5:45 PM
Depart hotel at 6:30 PM for group cruise throughout Des Moines
Go to group dinner (to be determined) at 8:00 PM
Leave dinner at about 10 PM to hit a club/bar
Hit an after hours club/bar

Saturday, May 19th-
Meet at rendezvous point for motorcade at 1:30PM
Leave at 2:00 PM to head to Porky’s for actual meet
Group lunch at Porky’s at 3:00 PM
After lunch we will hang out at Porky’s until 7:30 or 8:00
Group dinner at Latin King at 8:30 PM
After dinner we will hit some bars or clubs

Sunday, May 20th-
Golf outing at the Tournament Club of Iowa at 2:30 PM
Leave as attendees see fit

That is the itinerary and it is set in stone. All reservations have been made and everything is a go FOR SURE. You are not required to attend any of these events. All events are optional. I have left free time for meals as people see fit. If you are not interested in certain parts of the meet, there are PLENTY of other things to do in Des Moines. I will also post links to other attractions for people who bring their family.

Now for the details:

We will be meeting in the Econolodge parking lot at 5:45 PM. People that want to come earlier are encouraged! I have taken the day off work and can meet up with people anytime. Just let me know! I will distribute maps of our route. We will have various stopping points along the way so that we can regroup.

The hotel in Des Moines will be the Econolodge on Merle Hay Road. We have a block of rooms reserved for the ENTIRE weekend. The rate is going to be $45 for a single bed and $50 for a double. Their phone number is 515-278-8858. Be sure to tell them you are with the Cadillac Owners Meet to get the group rate. Again, you will need to book with them by April 17th, 2007. This hotel will also allow domesticated pets for a $10 fee. The address for the hotel is 4755 Merle Hay Road, Urbandale, IA 50322. There are a lot of nicer hotels in Des Moines. There is a Four Points Sheraton directly across the street but we only have a group rate at the Econolodge. Downtown offers several luxury hotels. This hotel is only a few miles from the actual meet location and is within walking distance of several bars.

The rendezvous point for the motorcade is a large abandoned parking lot near my house. We will take a short drive down a couple of main thoroughfares on our way to Porky’s

Re: FIRST EVER NATIONAL MEET Des Moines, Iowa May 18th-20th 1/4 mile golf drinking food

Porky’s diner has been a Des Moines hotspot for 20+ years. It is on a very busy street and is VERY well known for their car events and AWESOME food. During the summer months, Porky’s hosts “Cruise Night” which attracts hundreds of local automobile enthusiasts. Cruise Night is held on Saturdays and is usually so packed that police are required to direct traffic. Cruise night usually starts around 5:00 or 6:00 PM which should give the public masses the chance to see our Cadillacs! Porky’s is very well known for their tenderloins. They also serve beer. The address for Porky’s is 4444 Douglas Ave, Des Moines, IA 50310. Also, please check out their website, www.prokysdiner.com .

The Latin King is known throughout Iowa as having some of the best Italian food around. Here you will find many signature dishes unlike anything you have ever tasted. The Latin King is an upscale restaurant. You should plan on spending $20 to $30 for your dinner. The address is 2200 Hubbell Ave, Des Moines, IA. Also, please check out their website, www.tursislatinking.com .

If you are into partying (much like me!!), you will not be disappointed with the Des Moines nightlife. After dinner we have virtually unlimited options of what to do. We can go to some small bars to converse or hit a full blown club. There are also several microbrewery taverns in the area. The sky is the limit! For the hardcore partiers like me, there are several after hours clubs and “alternative” clubs for after 2 AM. Partying options will be decided on that weekend based on what people are in the mood for. Be sure to check out http://www.iowanightlife.com/ to see the Des Moines party scene!

The Tournament Club of Iowa is a premier public course! The course was designed by Arnold Palmer and hosts pro events every year. The cost for 9 holes with a cart will be $30. To be a part of this part of the meet you need to be confirmed by April 17th, 2007. To see the course, please visit http://www.tcofiowa.com/ .

At the bottom of this post will be several relevant maps. Feel free to print them!

Anyone is welcome to join us for this meet, regardless of car make. For the motorcade and meet, only Cadillacs will be included.

Basically, you will need to be signed up for everything you want to be involved in by April 17th, 2007.

Please do not post questions or concerns on this thread. This thread is only to confirm your attendance. Please do not post your confirmation until you have booked your hotel room(s). When you post your confirmation be sure to include which events you will be attending. This will help us to have accurate numbers for everything. Also, please post when and where you will be arriving. If you are attending race night be sure to e-mail me FIRST.

Please post your questions and concerns in the old Midwest meet thread. I will continue to monitor the old thread.

I will distribute maps throughout the weekend. Please let me know if you need help or directions!

Nick,

I'm in (2 people), hotel booked Days Inn Fri. & Super 8 Sat. I will most likely drive directly to CF from WI on Fri. Should be fun! :kissrock:

Fri.
Will be a spectator @ races
Bars/clubs

Sat.
Motorcade
Group lunch
Group dinner
Bars/clubs

Sun.
Golf (2 people)

BTW, in your orginal post you have the super 8 phone as 515-277-8858, it is actually 515-278-8858. I was able to get a room but they don't have any left in the reserved block so I couldn't get the group rate.

Re: FIRST EVER NATIONAL MEET Des Moines, Iowa May 18th-20th 1/4 mile golf drinking food

I'll be there Saturday, I don't think I can get there in time for Friday night, and I'll head back Sunday morning as I don't golf.

As far as additional people, my Dad wants to come, and he might bring my Mother - but I'm not sure on that.

Re: FIRST EVER NATIONAL MEET Des Moines, Iowa May 18th-20th 1/4 mile golf drinking food

Haven't been on here in a while due to moving to the Chicago area for a new job, but Nick and I have been staying in touch. I will be there from Friday through Sunday. I will be a spectator at the racing event, do all the Saturday events, and leave after breakfast since I don't golf.

I will be selling my '91 Brougham there at the event.

What! When did this happen?

I was waiting for a piece of financial news before confirming, but now that I have it, I know that I'm coming.

Hoover and I will arrive in Des Moines on Saturday, and I'm planning to do everything (I even dug my golf clubs out of the attic and will have to hit the driving range). My Dad may be making the trip with me, but I don't know yet for sure.

Wonderful! Bringing Cruella I presume?

That's the plan. Cruella's running good; I'm having the serpentine belt replaced and will probably do the hoses as well before the trip.

I'm getting Betty's A/C fixed later this month, but I'm planning to drive her back to Arizona in November for a meet that the local Impala club I helped start is hosting.

Now everyone can see the SAGE GREEN ULTRA RARE BROUGHAM in person.

Well, it's raining—again! So I won't be taking the clay bar to Cruella today, but I may do the Dove treatment to the interior. Took my steam vac to the carpets last week, so I'm detailing her gradually for the trip.

I was bored, so I decided to see who all is coming to the meet. Right now, I count only 9 confirmed CF members, plus another five friends that Nick mentioned. But there are 21 CF members who said they were interested in coming; they just haven't confirmed.

I tried a couple of different ways to import my table into the post, but it wouldn't cooperate, and I can't attach the original spreadsheet, so I printed it as a .pdf and converted it to a .jpeg file.

Nick, John, maybe you should PM some of the guys who said they were interested but who have not confirmed. Maybe PM some of the other members in the Midwest (I'm can think of several from Ohio—Robert CTS, Illumina, Pimpin88, Florian) and bump up the attendance.

Since the track time was unfortunately cancelled, I have a suggestion. Why don't we set up a little autocross course at the former Target parking lot where we're meeting up? We could do this on Sunday morning after breakfast and before golf. Might be fun to see what some of those big Fleetwoods can do, especially if Elias brings his with the Impala SS suspension mods. Nick, since you work for the state, maybe you could get some orange cones from the transportation department?

I've gone to events like this when the C5 Corvette was launched and also at a GM truck event. Had a blast whipping an Escalade around the cones (my friend who drove a Mazda pickup had his hands full; he couldn't believe how I was whipping that thing around, but I'm used to big cars).

Just an idea to think about.

My Dad just called, and he has some possible substitute driver's for his route, so it looks like he may be coming. I'll know for sure in the next week or so.

John, did you ever hear from the local Cadillac/LaSalle Club about joining us for the show on Saturday; I'd love to see some vintage Cadillacs there.

And if anybody's interested, here's my itinerary for the trip to and from Des Moines. I'm going to try driving back in three days to conserve my vacation days, and if my Dad helps with some of the driving, that will make it easier. On the way back, I'm stopping at the Cussler Museum outside Denver. Looks like there are some really cool cars there.

There's a small hiccup on the hotel. What was a Super 8 will be an EconoLodge as of next week. Phone number is still (515) 278-8858. Address is 4755 Merle Hay Rd. Do not confuse it with the Super 8 across the street at Merle Hay Rd. and Sutton (formerly a Comfort Inn).

Also, when I called to make a reservation, they couldn't find the reservation code CGCICS or any record of the Cadillac Owner's club. So I'm going to call again in the morning and speak to Ashley. She works 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is the person who handles groups.

#29 ·
OK, problem solved with the hotel. Ashley was off today, but I spoke to Cathy (I think that's her name), and she found our group with the reservation code CGCICS. She said it would be best to call before 3 p.m. to make your reservations; either she or Ashley will be there, and they at least know what's going on.

hey gd, I had booked a sat. night room at this hotel a long time ago and then a couple of weeks ago I added fri. night when the whole racing thing fell through in cedar falls. Are you saying they lost all our reservations and I need to call and rebook or is everything kosher?
